According to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, each public agency shall:
ensure access to the general education curriculum in the regular classroom, to the maximum extent possible, so he or she can meet the educational standards within the jurisdiction of the public agency that apply to all children (20 U.S.C. § 1400(c)(5)(A))
The IEP team must include an explanation of the extent, if any, to which the child will not participate with nondisabled children in the regular class (20 U.S.C. § 1414(d)(1)(A)(i)(V))
All children with disabilities must be included in all general State and districtwide assessment programs, including assessments described under NCLB, with appropriate accommodations and alternate assessments where necessary and as indicated in their respective IEPs (20 U.S.C. § 1412(a)(16)(A))
The ESC provides professional development and support to develop the capacity of schools in the region to serve students with disabilities in integrated settings through the development of Individual Education Programs based on the state Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the provision of supplementary aids and services including acommodations, modifications, and other supports.
